Half of it is the product
Fibre, pile density and backing decide both the price per metre and how long the carpet lasts. Samples that look alike often are not.
No single number fits every room: carpet cost moves with fibre, density, underlay, the state of your floor and how quantity is worked out. Read the factors, then let us measure free of charge in Riyadh and send an itemised quote.

Fibre, pile density and backing decide both the price per metre and how long the carpet lasts. Samples that look alike often are not.
Underlay, fixing, floor preparation, stairs and removal are real line items, and leaving them out changes the total.
Carpet is cut from a roll of fixed width, so the order is often larger than the floor area.
Yarn is the most expensive part of any carpet. Polypropylene usually sits at the budget end; it resists water-based stains but recovers slowly once flattened. Nylon costs more because it springs back and keeps its look in busy corridors and majlis rooms (the formal guest lounge of a Saudi home). Wool and wool blends sit at the top, chosen for feel rather than toughness.
Two carpets of the same colour and height can carry very different amounts of yarn. Bend the sample back: if the backing shows easily between tufts, density is low. More yarn costs more, but it does not crush into walkways within months.
A good backing takes stretching during fitting without rippling later. Underlay is usually a separate line, and its grade changes comfort and sound insulation. Some quotes look lower only because underlay is missing or unnamed.
Tiles are priced differently from roll carpet, but in offices they often waste less and one damaged tile can be swapped later. Roll carpet gives homes a seamless finish but needs seam planning. See office carpet tiles and wall-to-wall roll carpet.
Plain carpet cuts flexibly; a repeating pattern must line up at every seam. A room just wider than the roll wastes the most, as the calculator example below shows.
Cracked tiles, uneven levels and old adhesive must be dealt with first. That work cannot be judged from a photo, so we check it at the free inspection and list it as its own item.
Every tread is measured, stretched and fixed on its own, so stairs are usually priced per step or separately. See stair carpet.
Lifting old carpet, moving furniture and fitting door bars are legitimate costs. Know whether each sits inside the price or outside it.
You pay the price per metre once; a replacement is paid in full again. A low-density carpet in a busy majlis can show traffic lanes early, and then removal and fitting are paid twice.
Judge by cost per year of use, and set the grade room by room. A guest bedroom is fine with mid-range carpet; the main majlis and hallway deserve better. If a room sees regular spills, vinyl flooring may cost less over its life.

Example: a 6.5 × 4.6 m majlis is 29.9 m². With a 4 m roll it takes two drops of 4.6 m each, so 9.2 m of roll = 36.8 m² ordered. Try your own sizes; we confirm everything on site.
Keep this list beside every quote. A quote with empty boxes is not cheaper, just incomplete.
| Item | What to ask | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Product | Fibre, density, pile height, range name | Compare like with like |
| Quantity | Roll metres and roll width, not just room area | The difference is the waste |
| Underlay | Type, thickness, included or not | Often quietly left out |
| Fixing | Gripper strips, adhesive, door bars | Stops loosening and fraying |
| Floor prep | Crack and level repairs, old glue removal | Only knowable on site |
| Stairs | Number of steps; full cover or runner | Priced differently from rooms |
| Removal | Old carpet disposal, moving furniture | Easy to add later if unwritten |
Every quote we send after the inspection lists these items. To measure first, see how to measure a room.
The rate covers net floor area; the waste appears on the final invoice.
You pick a premium sample and a thinner carpet in the same colour arrives.
Left off or listed without a grade, then added later or downgraded.
The floor is priced at the room rate and the staircase becomes an extra.
Cracks and old glue surface once work starts, and the deal changes.
Disposing of the old carpet turns out never to have been included.
Length and width of each room, plus alcoves or columns. A photo with a rough size is enough to start.
A close-up of the existing floor and a wide shot, so we can judge preparation and removal.
Majlis, bedroom, hallway or office? Children at home? That sets the right grade.
Number of steps and your preferred date. Then we book the free inspection.
We do not publish a fixed rate, because “a metre of carpet” can mean a budget or premium product, with or without underlay, on a ready floor or one needing work. Send room sizes and photos, or let us visit free in Riyadh, and you receive a written quote listing product, quantity and fitting.
Usually the quotes describe different things: another fibre, lower density in the same colour, no underlay, or quantity based on room area instead of roll length. Lay them side by side with the worksheet above and most gaps turn out to be a missing item or a different product.
It depends on the quote, so ask. Some price the carpet alone; others bundle carpet, underlay and fitting into one rate. Our quotes give each element its own line, from underlay to preparation, stairs and removal, so you can see exactly what is included.
Carpet comes off a roll of fixed width. If the room is wider than the roll, a second drop runs the full room length and part of it is left over; patterns also need matching at seams. That waste is normal but should be shown clearly, as the calculator above demonstrates.
Not necessarily. Office tiles are built for wheeled chairs and constant traffic and can cost more than a mid-range domestic roll, yet they save money later because one damaged tile is replaced on its own. Compare products designed for the same use, not items made for different jobs.
Where traffic is heavy: the main majlis, hallways, stairs and open-plan offices. A denser pile and tougher fibre keep their looks longer there and delay replacement. Quiet guest rooms are usually fine with mid-range carpet, and the saving can go towards better underlay.
Send room sizes and floor photos on WhatsApp, or call to book a visit in Riyadh. You get clear line items, not a headline number.
