What a school asks of its floors

Within our commercial flooring projects, schools get their own standards, set around pupils. Their floors take a beating office floors never see: hundreds of feet in a ten-minute break, chairs dragged dozens of times a day, spilled juice and small children sitting on the ground.

Three priorities guide us: a slip-resistant surface that is easy to sanitise, quieter classrooms and corridors, and installation that never interrupts the school year. Those priorities lead to different answers for the classroom, library, prayer room and yard.

  • Private and international schools, all stages
  • Nurseries and kindergartens
  • Learning and training centres

Safety, hygiene and noise

What we review with school management before choosing

Slip resistance

Canteens, entrances and washrooms get a slip-resistant surface, and stair nosings in a contrasting colour that pupils can see clearly.

Easy to sanitise

Fewer joints mean fewer places for dust and germs, the same principle as clinic flooring: welded seams and coved skirting at the wall.

Calmer classrooms

Chairs and footsteps are loud on hard floors. Foam-backed vinyl, chair glides and carpet in the library all take the edge off.

Little ones on the floor

Kindergarten children spend much of the day on the floor, so we favour a warmer-feeling vinyl and a small washable rug for story time.

Colour for wayfinding

A colour per stage or corridor, or floor graphics marking where to line up and wait.

Yard dust

Hard paths and entrance matting stop sand being carried into classrooms, which also means fewer scratches.

No disruption to lessons

A summer holiday programme for new school floors

  1. Survey before term ends

We visit while pupils are still in, to see real traffic routes, and measure every space.

  2. Approve materials early

Samples go to management or the owner and are signed off before the break, leaving time for supply.

  3. Empty buildings in order

We agree furniture moves block by block with the school, largest areas first.

  4. Prepare and install

Subfloors are repaired and levelled, then floors laid and seams welded, with finished areas protected.

  5. Handover before staff return

A walk-round with management, plus written cleaning instructions for the caretaking team.

Estimate how much you need

Estimate vinyl for a classroom or corridor

Enter the room or corridor size in metres. Vinyl rolls usually come 2 m or 4 m wide; for a whole school we work from the plans after measuring.

Questions from school and nursery managers

What is the best flooring for classrooms in Riyadh?

The most common choice is commercial sheet vinyl: a continuous surface that copes with dragged chairs and daily traffic and mops clean quickly. We pick the wear layer to suit the age group and pupil numbers, and suggest chair glides to cut noise and scuffs. Carpet is usually kept for libraries and reading rooms.

Can new floors be fitted during the school year?

Yes, in phases at weekends or after pupils leave, as long as the area is empty and closed off. Tiles suit this approach best; glued vinyl needs time for the adhesive before furniture goes back. For larger projects, the summer holiday remains the easiest window for everyone.

Which flooring suits nursery and kindergarten rooms?

We suggest a foam-backed or warmer-feeling vinyl in bright patterns: easy to sanitise and comfortable for children who sit and play on the floor, with a small washable rug for the reading corner. Outdoor play areas are covered on our playground grass page.

How can we reduce noise in classrooms and corridors?

Most of the noise comes from chairs scraping and footsteps in corridors. Chair glides solve a good part of it, and foam-backed vinyl is quieter than harder floors. In libraries and quiet activity rooms, carpet tiles absorb sound far more noticeably.

Is vinyl slip-resistant enough for canteens and washrooms?

Standard vinyl can get slippery when wet, so wet areas get products with a dedicated slip-resistant surface, and we advise keeping floors dry after washing. Entrance matting zones also stop water and sand being carried into corridors.

Can you quote several schools in one education group?

Yes. We set one specification per type of space and apply it across the group's schools, with a separate quote for each building based on its actual areas. Works are scheduled across the holiday weeks by priority, and samples are checked before each order so colours stay close.

What do you need from us to quote school flooring?

Send the plans, or a list of spaces with rough areas, photos of the current floors, the age group and the holiday window available for works. We then book a free visit in Riyadh and send a quote broken down by space: classrooms, corridors, library, prayer room and yards.

Do you supply project quantities together with fitting?

Yes, we supply flooring for schools and nurseries in project quantities, with quantity take-off, samples and a delivery schedule, and this can include fitting. Details are on our wholesale flooring supply page.
