What a shop needs

Six points we review before choosing a shop floor

We start from the nature of the business and customer traffic before colour. Planning something bigger? See our project solutions and office flooring.

Handling traffic

Footsteps repeat daily in a shop, so we choose a floor with a hardwearing top layer to match how busy it is.

Easy cleaning

A floor whose dust wipes off quickly and which holds no stains keeps the shop looking good between customers.

A look that serves the display

A calm colour and pattern that lift the products without competing, with samples checked under your own shop lighting.

Stability under loads

Heavy shelving and display units press on specific points, so we take that into account in the type and fitting method.

Sound

Large halls echo, and carpet tiles may help in suitable zones.

Speed of fitting

A late opening is costly, so we set clear stages and a duration after the inspection.

By business type

Which floor suits each type of shop?

There is no single rule, but these are common suggestions that we refine with you.

We follow the product specification and the manufacturer’s guidance on commercial use for the type you choose.

How we choose

Glued, floating or carpet?

The decision rests on traffic, loads and timing.

Glued LVT planks are among the most stable choices for busy places, while click-lock SPC planks are quicker and suit a level floor when the date is tight. Sheet vinyl suits large areas with few joints. We explain the differences in our SPC, LVT and sheet vinyl guide.

The existing floor

We look at whether it is tiles, polished concrete or old carpet. Firm tiles usually stay, old carpet is lifted, and deep grout lines are levelled before thin vinyl. Details are on our vinyl installation Riyadh page.

Gloss and lighting

Very glossy surfaces show scratches and reflect lighting, and a calm semi-matt texture is more practical in shops. We show samples on site.

The shopfront detail

The threshold between the street or mall corridor and the shop meets dust and water, so we consider the profile, any height difference and recommend a mat at the door.

Fixtures and display units

We ask whether fixed units go in before or after the floor, because that decides how the floor is laid around their bases.

Sequence

How we plan fitting before you open

  1. Inspect and measure

We visit the shop, measure, check the current floor and ask about your opening date and site access.

  2. Choose the material

We show samples that suit the business and budget and fix quantities with a suitable waste allowance.

  3. Fitting schedule

We set the order of work and the stages, and what must be coordinated with other contractors or building management.

  4. Prepare and fit

We prepare the floor, fit it and fix skirting and thresholds to the agreed schedule.

  5. Clean and hand over

We clear the work debris, wipe the floor and hand over before or with the fixtures, as agreed.

Malls and timing

What we coordinate if the shop is inside a mall

Mall management may set conditions on working hours, bringing in materials, protection and waste removal. So we ask early about the building’s requirements so they go into the schedule.

We protect neighbouring floors and keep dust and noise down, and we arrange deliveries around lifts or loading areas and work during the permitted hours. Permits and approvals specific to the mall are a matter between the shop and building management, and we give you what information we can about the work.

How to look after the shop floor

Daily cleaning

Remove dust and grit with a vacuum or broom then mop with a suitable cleaner; a mat at the entrance reduces what comes in.

Protect the bases

Felt pads under shelf and display bases and spreading the load prevent permanent dents.

Do not delay repairs

A scratch or raised edge in the customer walkway is dealt with early so it does not spread.

Spares

We leave you pieces from the same batch to replace any area damaged later.

Questions shop and showroom owners ask

What is the best floor for a retail shop?

Wood or stone-look vinyl is common for its easy cleaning and variety, and glued LVT is used for very busy places. We choose after knowing the business, traffic and the current floor.

Can the floor be fitted over the existing tiles in a shop?

In most cases yes, provided the tiles are firm and level. Deep grout lines and raised tiles are treated first, since they can show through thin vinyl.

How long does flooring a medium-sized shop take?

It varies with the area, the current floor and the fitting type. We give a schedule after the inspection rather than a general estimate, and arrange it around your opening date where we can.

Can you work at set times inside malls?

We try to coordinate with the hours management allows, and ask early about access and material rules so they go into the schedule.

Do I need a special floor under heavy shelving and displays?

We do not change the floor, but we consider concentrated loads in the choice of type and method, and tell you what to install before and after the floor so planks do not move.

Is carpet suitable for retail shops?

It suits reception areas, fitting rooms and offices more than dusty or wet entrances. Carpet tiles let you replace a damaged tile without redoing the whole zone.

How do I clean a vinyl floor in a shop?

Remove dust and grit daily, then mop with a mild cleaner and soft mops, with a mat at the entrance. The product’s own instructions remain the reference.

What should I send to get a quote?

The shop location and area, the type of business and the opening date, photos of the current floor and the shopfront, and a plan if you have one. We then confirm the quote at the free inspection.
