Water resistance
Washing machines, small leaks and cleaning water reach the floor all the time, so we need a material whose surface does not suffer from wetness.
The laundry room, utility room and store are small spaces but they see the most water, detergent and heavy loads. This page explains how to choose a floor that copes with wet conditions, slipping and the weight of machines, what to watch at skirting and drains, and then we arrange a free inspection in Riyadh and a quote by phone or WhatsApp.

When choosing, think about water, cleaners and weight together. For more ideas see kitchen and bathroom vinyl and water-resistant flooring.
Washing machines, small leaks and cleaning water reach the floor all the time, so we need a material whose surface does not suffer from wetness.
A wet floor is slippery, especially for older people. See anti-slip flooring for details.
A washer and dryer are heavy and vibrate in use, so the floor must be firm and not dent underfoot.
Detergent, soap and dust collect, and a smooth surface that wipes clean beats a porous one.
Dryers and closed laundry rooms trap heat and humidity, which affects some floors more than others.
Water gets in at the edges more than across the surface, so skirting and openings at pipes and doors must be sealed.
Laundry and utility rooms often have old tile or bare concrete and need a change that improves safety and appearance. The key decision is the material: rigid-core planks or roll vinyl, and whether to leave an expansion gap or use a glued-down fitting. We answer after seeing the room and checking for a floor drain.
SPC vinyl with a rigid core copes well with furniture and heavy appliances and is water-resistant on the surface. Roll vinyl suits rooms that need the fewest seams and can be glued as the product instructions allow. Read SPC flooring in Riyadh and roll vinyl to choose.
Wood and wood-fibre floors swell if water repeatedly reaches their edges, and laundry rooms see that constantly. So we do not recommend them in these rooms and prefer water-resistant materials.
If the room has a floor drain, the fall towards it must be right before laying, or water will stand. We check this at the inspection, and the base may need correcting as in floor preparation and levelling.
Skirting in a laundry room must be sealed so water cannot run behind it. We choose a water-resistant skirting, allow for pipe openings, and seal gaps with suitable materials. Options are in skirting and profiles.
A washing machine needs a firm level place. We allow for this while laying and advise rubber feet or suitable bases under appliances to reduce vibration, rather than raising a machine on the edge of the floor.
A tray under the washer and regular checks of water hoses reduce the risk of an unnoticed leak under the floor. If the room is on the ground floor or near pipes, see concrete moisture check before laying.
These rooms are often small and dim, so a light-coloured floor with a matte finish makes them feel bigger and shows less water spotting than a dark glossy one. Choose a pattern that hides lint and dust without looking busy.

Take loads and suit rooms wanting a wood or stone look with water resistance.

Covers the room with the fewest seams and suits small rooms and stores.

For larger utility rooms and stores that need trolleys and frequent cleaning.
We check drainage and moisture and measure the room.
SPC or roll vinyl, depending on the room and its use.
Level, correct differences and set the fall to the drain.
Fit the floor, seal skirting and pipe openings.
Check edges and seams, clean the site and put appliances back.
| Material | Suits | Note |
|---|---|---|
| SPC vinyl planks | Laundry and utility rooms | Water resistant with good load capacity |
| Roll vinyl | Small rooms and stores | Fewer seams and needs good preparation |
| Tiles | Floor drains and wet areas | Grout joints need care and cleaning |
| Parquet and laminate | Not recommended | They swell when water reaches the edges |
We confirm the choice after the inspection according to fall, drainage and loads.
Put a short rubber mat in front of the washer to catch drips, wipe spills straight away and do not leave water standing near the edges.
Clean the floor with a mild cleaner suited to vinyl and avoid abrasives. For care see the vinyl cleaning guide.

Rigid-core types cope well with ordinary loads, and we check the specifications before work.
We prefer water-resistant skirting with sealed ends.
The fall towards it must be right before laying, and we check it at the inspection.
We do not recommend it because it swells when water repeatedly reaches it.
With a mild vinyl-suitable cleaner and a wrung-out mop; avoid abrasives.
