Type of flooring
Laying a roll of carpet in a rectangular room differs from fitting herringbone parquet or patterned vinyl. Some systems need acclimatisation or adhesive drying time.
One of the questions we hear most before any project is how many days the installation will take. The honest answer is that it changes with the type of floor, the area, the condition of the existing floor, material availability, the number of fitters and the working hours allowed. That is why we do not give a fixed figure before seeing the space. What we can offer here is a clear map of the stages and the factors, so you know what speeds the job up, what slows it down and how to prepare. After a free site visit we set a written schedule that suits you.

No single figure suits every project, but these factors shape the picture in most cases. The clearer they are before work starts, the more accurate the schedule.
Laying a roll of carpet in a rectangular room differs from fitting herringbone parquet or patterned vinyl. Some systems need acclimatisation or adhesive drying time.
A rectangular room goes faster than a space with many corners, columns, doors and details.
A level, dry floor lets work start at once, while one needing levelling or moisture treatment adds a stage. See floor preparation and leveling.
Stripping old carpet, tiles or parquet takes time and cleaning. See old carpet removal.
Material available in full and from one batch reduces stoppages. Late delivery of part of the order can halt work.
Working in an office, mosque or hotel means respecting entry times and rules on noisy work.
We do not quote durations in days because they change with your project. The table shows where the time goes in each type.
| Type | Where the time goes | Details page |
|---|---|---|
| Carpet | Levelling, measuring, cutting, fixing and finishing the edges | Carpet installation |
| Vinyl | Checking flatness, preparing the floor, laying and skirting | Vinyl installation |
| Parquet | Board acclimatisation, underlay, laying and leaving expansion gaps | Parquet installation |
| Artificial grass | Preparing the base and drainage, laying and seams | Artificial grass installation |
| Mosque carpet | Dividing, measuring, laying and aligning the rows | Mosque carpet installation |
We visit the site, measure, check the floor and settle material and quantity.
Removing the old floor, cleaning, levelling and treating moisture if needed.
Installing the material by the method that suits its type.
Skirting, transition strips, edges and detail repairs.
Walking the result with you, cleaning the site and explaining care.
A large part of the speed of installation depends on what is done before day one. These simple steps cut stoppages, dust and disturbance.
The emptier the room, the faster and cleaner the work. We agree with you in advance what moves, what stays, and who shifts heavy furniture.
We review door heights and the gap beneath so nothing needs trimming after laying. Details are in flooring height and door clearance.
When colour, pattern, skirting and transitions are decided before starting, work does not wait on your decision. See skirting and profiles.
We need electricity for tools and a suitable entrance to bring materials in, and in apartment buildings an arrangement with security and lift times.
Delays in most projects have recurring causes, and some can be avoided by planning. We list them frankly so you can avoid them.
A problem can appear after the old floor is lifted. A pre-check at the site visit reduces surprises but does not always remove them. We may need a levelling or damp-proofing stage. See floor preparation.
Switching colour or pattern after fitting begins stops the crew and delays handover.
If the full quantity is not there we may wait for the rest, and batches can differ in colour. That is why we allow for waste from the start. See how to measure a floor.
Traffic, difficulty getting materials to the floor, or parallel work such as painting and electrics can hold up the job. We coordinate with other contractors where there are any.
Here are simplified scenarios without figures, because figures differ from project to project, but they show how the order of work changes.
Here we usually need no stripping or levelling, so work starts with cleaning and underlay, then laying and skirting. This is the simplest scenario, with the fewest stages.
Work begins by removing the old carpet and cleaning the floor, then levelling low spots and waiting for materials to cure if used, and only then laying. Two extra stages clearly change the schedule.
The job is split into sections, and we may work evenings or weekends to limit disturbance. The schedule runs longer because the work is divided, but the office stays open.
Clear communication cuts delay more than many people imagine. We agree a single contact and a way to review from the start.
We tell you when each stage is finished and send photos on WhatsApp if you wish, so you can follow without being on site every time.
If something unexpected appears, such as a crack or damp, we show you in photos and propose solutions and their likely cost before doing anything extra.
At the end we walk the whole floor with you and note any remarks before the crew leaves.
Room dimensions or a rough plan. You can use our measuring guide.
Carpet, vinyl, parquet, artificial grass or rugs.
Photos of the existing floor and any damp or cracks.
Hours work is allowed, access times and the required completion date.
Some places have considerations that change the schedule, so we plan for them specially.
We coordinate with prayer times and avoid disrupting worship, so work is often done in phases or at set times. See mosque carpet installation.
Large multi-room spaces are done room by room or floor by floor. Details are in villa and apartment flooring.
A landlord needs a quick, durable solution between tenants. See rental apartment flooring.
An honest schedule starts after seeing the space and checking the floor, not before.
Levelling and underlay seem far from the final look but decide its quality and lifespan.
Make sure the full quantity is available so work does not stop halfway across a room.
Cutting drying or acclimatisation time may cause problems later. We prefer a realistic schedule.
It depends on the type, area, floor condition and material. We give no fixed figure before a visit, but we give you a clear schedule once we have seen the space.
For some small jobs yes, with rooms arranged in turn, and for others it is better to vacate to limit dust and smell. We discuss it at the visit.
Boards are usually left in the room for a period to acclimatise, following the manufacturer, and that is part of the schedule. See parquet installation.
Some glued systems need drying time before use, and we give you the instructions for the chosen product.
We can do it within the schedule depending on its type, and it may need cleaning and levelling afterwards. See old carpet removal.
We try to coordinate with the conditions of the place, and it is settled after the visit depending on available crews.
We arrange the free site visit first, then give a realistic installation date once we have seen the space and confirmed material availability.
Clear the room, decide colour, pattern and skirting early, make access easy, and send us photos and measurements in advance.
